Notice to Karori junior coaches about ground allocation and usage for 2012 season
As we are starting off the 2011 season early we need to be considerate of the grounds to ensure they hold up throughout the season. Ground availability is limited and the council is running out of space for the number of teams playing football throughout the Wellington region.
What this means for Karori:
We have to squeeze more teams into limited spaces. Where possible I will endeavour to limit the amount of teams on a field but if we need to I may increase that number to accommodate the demand.
You will just have to make do with what you are allocated.
Choosing a Ground:
Karori co-ordinates Wellington City Council grounds, Victoria University (including the teachers' training field on Campbell Street) and Karori Normal Primary School grounds. All of these must be booked through Natasha Hallett (see bottom of page). However if you wish to organise trainings yourself at other grounds you may do so e.g. your local school. Note the club is not responsible for any costs associated with using privately booked facilities.
Please remember:
We can't magically create more grounds so use what you are given.
The council will enforce ground allocations - if you use a ground without booking you will lose the right to practice and potentially ruin it for others.
We are all in the same situation - no one team is more important than another as we are all here so the kids can learn and enjoy the game.
The rules you have to follow:
All teams are to adhere to the following conditions so that we are not disadvantaging other teams.
Adding to this we have a lot more teams wanting to have two practice sessions a week which means we are running short of space.
Checking Availability of WCC Grounds:
To check the status of a WCC ground for training, call the Sportsgrounds Hotline: 04 801 4134. Ground status is usually updated twice a day during the week at approx. 9am and 1pm. You can also check on the web at http://www.wellington.govt.nz/services/sptsgrds/index.html but be aware the web page is not always updated as frequently as the telephone service.
Note the Sportsgrounds Hotline does not provide information about match cancellations and in particular you must not assume a match is cancelled just because the Hotline says the ground is closed, or that a match is on because the Hotline says the ground is open. To find out whether a match is cancelled contact your coach or check with Capital Football.
